Vienne loves to Roar!!

Sometime in the fall of 2013, Katy Perry released her hit single, Roar. At Vienne's school, they began playing the song incessantly in her classroom. Roar is certainly catchy and relatively inoffensive, with some fairly empowering lyrics to boot. Vienne quickly picked up the nuances of the song, and she delighted me with her special rendition one night during bath time:

Hot child in the city

During August, we experienced some sweltering temperatures in the 90s!  Haha, it doesn't sound very hot, does it?  But to a 3-year-old, it felt like being on the sun. Luckily, just up the road from our house, was the water fountain across the street from the state capitol building. In the weeks before Vienne returned to school full-time, she spent many a day there with her mama.

Ya-Ya comes to Salem!

Vienne's Ya-Ya paid us a visit in mid-August, staying through Vienne's birthday on August 20th.  During Ya-Ya's visit, we did lots of fun stuff, including a day trip to Mt. St. Helens. We had an absolute blast and Vienne loves her Ya-Ya so much (as we all do!) Earlier in August, before Ya-Ya arrived, we went to Newport and went through the Ripley's Believe it or Not museum and the Wax Works museum. We even "met" Johnny Depp. Hmmmm..maybe the quotes should have been around Johnny Depp and not the word met. Either way, it was fun and it smelled a little like crab.

4th of July!

We had a grand ole time for the Fourth of July at Grandpa and Grandma's house!  This was the first year that Vienne actively participated in the festivities. In previous years, she just gawked in amazement at the fireworks (and maybe was a little scared of them), but in 2013, she held a sparkler and helped her Papa set up the fireworks in the street. It was a good opportunity to teach our little Peanut about fire safety.  In July, I also took a cute video of Vienne counting and reading.

Vienne's World is back folks!!

Sorry for the extended hiatus. So much has happened since my last post (well, not really), but I'll be posting some highlights from June 2013 till now. And I promise to do a better job at keeping this blog up-to-date.

Without further ado, let's start with June! We moved from Eugene to Salem for Poppa's new job at Willamette University and we found a lovely (and very affordable!) house, with a great backyard and fire pit, for rent in Salem. Vienne loved to run around in the backyard all summer. Also, in June, Vienne's aunt, Arianne, paid us a visit!  We went to the beach and visited the Oregon tradition that is The Enchanted Forest!

From the archive: Princess Day 2013!

Vienne was a princess a few months ago (not like she isn't everyday though!!).  The fee went to help a local charity and in return, Vienne had her nails, makeup and hair done. Then she got to put on a pretty princess dress - complete with tiara and wand - and have her picture taken. It was super fun!

So long, goodbye

Today was a little sad. While it wasn't Vienne's last day at Playdates childcare, they did throw an early birthday/going away tea party for her. Danielle and I attended, and we had proud smiles on our faces, but also proud tears in our eyes. Big thanks to her wonderful teachers: Brenda and Stephanie!
