It was a wonderful holiday season last year, our first one in Salem in our house on 23rd St. We helped Grandpa and Grandma Hardy decorate their tree, and spent Christmas Eve over there. Vienne had a great time participating in our church's candle light service on Christmas Eve. Then Christmas morning was at our house, as was our Christmas day time with Auntie Awa, Cousin Claire, Grammy and Cindy. How blessed we are to share in the holidays with our wonderful families. Our only regret (as it has been the last few years) is that we didn't get to spend any holiday time with Danielle's family across the country in New England. Perhaps this year, in 2014, we'll make that happen for Turkey Day or Xmas! (hope, hope!!)
Vienne got many presents that she loved: Julia the baby puppy, a new bike with training wheels, lots of clothes, games, coloring books, regular books, Elsa and Anna magi clips, Snoopy, lots of playsets from Bubble Guppies and Disney Princess, a tiger Cabbage Patch baby, and much, much, much, much more!!

First egg!
In mid-December, one of our 5 backyard chickens - either Koki, Gigi, Henrietta or Penelope (but not Flower because she's a little younger than the rest of the girls) - laid their very first egg. Now, months later, we get on average a few dozen a week. Not only does this lighten our pocket book a little since we no longer buy eggs, we actually sell a dozen or so a week, helping offset the cost of the organic chicken feed.
We all love our chickens, and they love us. But, they especially love their Mama: Danielle. They follow her all over the yard and love to snuggle with her. Our chickens do the funniest thing where they crouch down like they are laying an egg whenever you touch their backs. It's weird and sorta funny, but enables us to pet them. They live in a nice coop built from scratch by Pepe during his last visit in November of 2013, and they used to have a large backyard all to themselves. Now that the weather is slowly getting warmer and sunnier, Danielle cleared out our fenced-in side yard for them to run around in, plus she built a little coop away from coop. Essentially, we needed to keep them out of our garden, but also limit their endless pooping all over our back deck and stairs and in the yard.
And, to answer your question, yes, they do taste differently than store bought eggs: More delicious that is!!

The first snow
Early December greeted us with a light dusting of snow. It wasn't enough to close down the schools, or bring out the plows, but Vienne was excited to see it none the less. The last time she played in the snow was in early 2012 when the Salem area (we were bunking with Dad and Sue then) was treated to a half inch in March of that year.

Crazy, silly Thanksgiving 2013
It was one silly Thanksgiving. First, Vienne showed off a series of hilarious poses, then she got her Grandpa to follow suit. Then after dinner, Vienne rode her big wheel a little bit.
